The Nine Days Of Christmas

Christmassy Pub Sign

Ho, ho, ho and merry Christmas, one and all! Since it’s been roughly a year since Quiz Masters was unleashed upon the world, we thought we’d fill your stockings with another chance to hear it with fresh ears, or to pass it on to a loved one like a slightly-too-large-but-utterly-unwanted jumper. Over the course of nine special, seasonal days, we’ll be tweeting and sharing links to all the episodes, culminating in the Christmas special. So even if you didn’t hear it the first time round (in fact, especially if you didn’t), what better excuse than to curl up around your tablet/smartphone/internet fridge and catch up with the exploits of Ian, Rose, Nyle, Jo and Ollie. And where better to begin than at the beginning? Here’s Episode 1 – or click here if you prefer to use iTunes.

Further Rumblings

With the Edinburgh Festival rousing the slumbering giant of the C&M Podcast from its dozing, we thought it fit to update you with various goings on of the erstwhile Quiz Masters cast. Aidan’s been busy with a new podcast project, Jon Starkey: MP In Space which sees the first four episodes being recorded on Wed 9th July at The Miller, London Bridge so go along if you’re in the area; Rafe is appearing in Enduring Song at the Southwark Playhouse until Sat 5th July (remember to use discount code NEWS to get a third off tickets); Scott has been lending his voice to various adverts, along with original cast member Ben (whose disembodied head appears inside a sports bag); Sarah has been illustrating misspelt tweets; Esther has been in California and got new head shots; and me? Well, this blog didn’t write itself…

Aidan and I will be podcasting in Edinburgh for the Fringe Festival, and it’d be daft to assume that we won’t be chatting about Quiz Masters Series 2 at some point so consider that a teaser. Until then, please return to fulfilling your respective potentials. Go on, off you go.

New Beginnings

With the prospect of slightly lighter evenings approaching at a snail’s pace and broken resolutions already clattering on the floor like so many stale sprout-flavoured chocolates, we at the Molested Lamb HQ hope that all of your Januarys have begun in a pleasant fashion. We hope you enjoyed the Christmas Special – it’s now up on YouTube as we didn’t get time to upload the video before, and although it probably feels a bit wrong listening to it after the event, you can always save it up for this year’s.

As mentioned in the Thank You Update, we’re currently in the process of crafting the second series; it’ll take a while but we’ll be posting lots of audio goodies up on the site and via the iTunes feed in-between to whet your appetites. Plus there’ll be lots of announcements from the Twitter feed, so watch this space.

Until then, here’s another excellent podcast, How To Do Everything, featuring the honey-like vocal meanderings of Sir Patrick Stewart rendering the local accents of British sheep. It’s a ruddy joy. So grab 2014 by the nuts and show it who’s boss, and tell it Mick sent you.

Christmas Special Out Now – Merry Christmas!

To help celebrate the festive season, we’ve only gone and done a festive Christmas special episode, exploring the very birth of the pub quiz as we know it – and indeed as we don’t know it! As writer Aidan McCaffery points out, it involves at least one more crucifixion than is usually customary in a Christmas episode but all becomes clear in the episode – happy listening!

Consider this a festive gift to all our subscribers and listeners who’ve helped propel us up the charts throughout Series 1. We hope to return with Series 2 at some point in the New Year, plus extra audio goodies in the interim. Until then, we hope you all have a great Christmas and a happy New Year!

Everyone’s A Winner When They Hold A Tankard

With the arrival of the Quiz Masters tankards, we’ve been able to send them to their rightful winners (apologies for the early winners waiting so long!) – here’s Episode 3 winner (in every sense of the word), Mr Andy Robeson. He cannot wait to fill that shiny receptacle full of ale and have a ruddy good time, you can see it in his eyes.

And here’s the rest of the winners’ haul just before we flung them in the post. I spy four more happy faces in the making…

We ordered slightly more than we needed (and before the cynics among you ask, not that many more, so it definitely doesn’t detract from the limited edition nature of the original prizes, all right?) so if you want to grab yourself one just in time for Christmas, click the PayPal link below to order one securely just in time for the festive period. The price is £9.99 + £2.99 P&P.

The Tankards Are Here!

At long last, our Quiz Masters tankards have arrived!  A big thank you to the good, good people of Coffeecups.co.uk/Quickfire Tableware in Sheffield who’ve been a pleasure to deal with, and have made the glasses actually look better than we expected (and we had high expectations). Here’s Quiz Masters writer/performer Aidan with his tankard in hand. Look how happy he is. Look! Like a kid in a sweetshop, or a glass-loving kid in a glass shop.

Personalised glassware makes Aidan very happy

“That’s all well and good,” I hear you say, “Aidan’s got a tankard and looks so happy with it, I’d like to share in his joy but now that the competitions are over, I’ll never be able to understand the same elation caused by grasping limited edition beer receptacles.” And to that, I say, “poppycock!” We have a few extra glasses which you can buy for the princely sum of £9.99 + £2.99 P&P, and just in time to arrive for Christmas. Just think how much lovelier a glass of real ale (or mixed fruit cordial) would taste being supped from a Quiz Masters tankard!

To get yours, simply click the PayPal button below. All transactions are handled with the utmost security, and we’ll get your tankard in the post as soon as payment is received. And keep watching this blog for updates about our exciting Christmas special!

Final Competition Winner – Congratulations, Nicholas Lees!

And it’s with a touch of finality, as we dab away the tears following the end of Series 1, that we wish warm and hearty congratulations to Nicholas Lees who answered our final competition question correctly and wins himself our final Quiz Masters limited edition etched glass Haworth tankard. And congratulations to all six winners over the series; we hope your drinks this festive season will taste all the more jolly coming from a glass tattooed with an tormented sheep. The answer to the question: the activity the team partook in at the end of Episode 7 was bowling.

Episode 6 Competition – Congratulations, Tim Gagie!

And the penultimate limited edition tankard for Episode 6 has been won by Geneva’s favourite son, Mr Tim Gagie! Well done, mucker – a beautifully rendered Quiz Masters receptacle will be flinging its way towards Alpine climes within the next few days. Now get on Facebook and tell the world how excited you are!

For those of you inquisitive to know the answer, the celebrity and former footballer Rose mistook for being scooped in Young Jews Monthly was Paul Gascoigne/Gazza.

This all means that not only will Tim now be imbibing in style, but the rest of you have only one more chance to win a special Haworth tankard of your own, in the Episode 7 Competition! Listen to the episode here, and then enter the competition here. To make it even easier, since it’s your last chance, we’ve even made it multiple choice. And staggeringly easy owing to a punning clue.

For the final time – best of luck and bonne chance!
